A Ground-breaking Move for Mental Health Services in Kabul, Afghanistan
International Medical Corps, in conjunction with the European Commission (EC) and Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health, broke ground on construction that will strengthen operations of the Mental Health Hospital and associated Jangalak Substance Misuse Center in Kabul. This new project will include construction of an outbuilding for outpatient consultations, a climate-controlled pharmacy storage facility, and new kitchen and laundry facilities for the hospital. International Medical Corps has completed improvements to the hospital’s training center and library, which have facilitated training on mental health and reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness. With these new improvements, International Medical Corps aims to strengthen the administration and operation of these facilities in order to provide a safe and respectful clinical environment and improve the overall quality of care.
