Amgen Donates $615,000 to Support International Medical Corps’ Haiti Earthquake Disaster Relief Efforts

Amgen (Nasdaq: AMGN) has generously donated $615,000 to International Medical Corps as part of its commitment to donate $2 million to support Haiti relief efforts.

“The earthquake that hit Haiti has devastated the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in Port-au-Prince and beyond,” said Kevin Sharer, Amgen’s chairman and chief executive officer. “The contributions are expressions of our sincere sympathy for those directly affected by this tragedy.”

International Medical Corps was on the ground delivering medical care in Haiti 22 hours after the earthquake.  Its doctors and nurses are working around the clock to treat crush injuries, basic wounds, trauma, shock and other critical cases – with extremely limited resources.  Through this partnership with Amgen, International Medical Corps will expand its lifesaving medical services to the thousands who are suffering in Haiti.

“Amgen’s extraordinary generosity and compassion for the staggering suffering left by the Haiti earthquake provides significant resources to advance our work,” said Nancy Aossey, President and CEO of International Medical Corps. “We are very grateful their swift action, which will save lives, alleviate suffering and also help Haiti recover and rebuild from this devastating tragedy.”
