Last summer, residents of Sinjar, a northern Iraqi city, were forced to flee their homes when the militant group ISIS took control. When the displaced people fled to Sinjar Mountain, trapped without food and water, the world took notice of this spawning humanitarian crisis.
Although many were able to escape Sinajr on foot to Syria, a few hundred remained on the mountain without support and in mortal danger from the militants. In December, a corridor opened when ISIS was pushed back from Sinjar by Kurdish forces and International Medical Corps was able to access the displaced people and refugee populations. They were in dire need of aid after being isolated for a long period of time.
International Medical Corps with partners Wings of Help and Rwanga Foundation delivered 45 tons of cargo (5 trailers) of materials for shelter, food, blankets, winter clothing and footwear. This was the first international assistance to the displaced and refugee population in Sinjar.
