Building a Better Response: Project Overview to Date and Upcoming Activities

The BBR project was launched in February 2012. The initial phase of the project focused on gathering input from NGOs and other stakeholders to determine learning needs in regard to their engagement with the international humanitarian architecture (IHA).  This comprises the humanitarian country leadership, the cluster approach, and humanitarian funding mechanisms.

The second phase focused on the development of learning tools on the IHA, including a workshop curriculum and an e-learning tool. This phase also saw the implementation of a series of two-day workshops worldwide. In 2013, a total of 12 workshops were conducted in which a total of 280 humanitarian professional from national and international NGOs were trained. Workshop locations included Bangkok, Thailand; Manila, Philippines; Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Juba, South Sudan; N’Djamena, Chad; Dakar, Senegal; Nairobi, Kenya; and Washington, DC, United States.

This year’s activities will focus on the completion and roll-out of the e-learning course, as well as on the development of a blended learning workshop curriculum. The training materials will be translated into Arabic and French, and additional workshops will be conducted in Arabic and French speaking countries around the world.

More information on the launch of the e-learning and the schedule of workshops will be forthcoming!
