Hollywood Honors International Medical Corps’ Work in the Congo

At a celebrity-packed event in Hollywood, International Medical Corps was honored for its work in the Democratic Republic of Congo and 20 other countries around the world.

Stars who turned out for Wednesday night’s fundraiser at the House of Blues included Ben Affleck, who has visited International Medical Corps’ programs in Congo and Uganda. Affleck praised International Medical Corps staff, saying “They are working in the trenches of the trenches. The International Medical Corps has a history of success carrying (its work) out on the ground where few others would dare to go.”

Sheryl Crow performed before an audience that included Jennifer Garner, Marisa Tomei, Elizabeth Banks, Kate Walsh, Hank Azaria, Alyssa Milano, and Joel and Benji Madden of the rock band, Good Charlotte. International Medical Corps also presented its Humanitarian of the Year award to CNN’s Anderson Cooper, who profiled our programs in Somalia and Kosovo.

The evening was hosted by writer/producer Grant Heslov (“Good Night & Good Luck”) and his wife Lysa, who founded the arts exchange organization, Children Mending Hearts, and traveled to International Medical Corps’ programs in the Congo last month.
