Los Angeles-based humanitarian organization International Medical Corps will host its 2024 Annual Awards Celebration on Thursday, October 17, at The Beverly Wilshire Hotel. This year will mark 40 years of International Medical Corps’ lifesaving work here at home and around the world.
Merck, known as MSD outside of the United States and Canada, will receive the Global Citizen Award for its long-term support of International Medical Corps’ global health programs and emergency responses.
“Merck’s extraordinary generosity has been key to improving the health access and resilience of vulnerable communities for decades, including the outbreak of river blindness in southern Sudan in 2001, battling the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa in 2014, supporting communities affected by hurricanes in the United States, and helping civilians affected by war,” said International Medical Corps President and CEO Nancy A. Aossey. “Its longstanding commitment has made a significant difference in underserved communities around the world.”
The Henry H. Hood Distinguished Service Award will be presented to retired Ashville, NC, obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Michael Grady, who has responded to crises as a volunteer with International Medical Corps in Ukraine and Gaza, and with other organizations in Haiti and West Africa.
And International Medical Corps’ Head of Nutrition in Somalia, Naomi Mwikali Ndung’u, will receive the organization’s Founder’s Award for her dedication to developing and managing nutrition programs in one of the most unstable and food-insecure places on Earth.
“Dr. Grady and Naomi Mwikali Ndung’u are steadfast humanitarians who are passionate about making the world a better place, often in difficult and dangerous environments,” added Aossey. “We are grateful for their dedication to the mission of International Medical Corps.”
